Sit back, relax and experience a world class opera performance by some of the country’s finest operatic talents at Brisbane’s first Opera in the Gardens fundraiser.
Staged at the beautiful Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens on Sunday 23 March, 2014, the event will feature performances by various well-known artists.
They include David Kidd, who is continually in demand on theatrical and concert stages as a corporate performer and recording artist. David has toured with The Ten Tenors for the last 14 years, performing in 24 countries and recording on albums totalling over 1.4 million sales worldwide.
Other outstanding artists include Leisa Barry-Smith - one of Queensland’s best-loved cabaret and music theatre performers whose roles include Lilas Pastia in Opera Queensland’s critically acclaimed production of Carmen; and Jason Barry-Smith, a familiar presence on the Australasian operatic and music theatre stage with numerous roles including Enjolras in Les Miserables and the title role of Don Giovanni for which he won a National Opera Award.
Crowds will also be entertained by Jillianne Stoll, who worked on Opera Australia's 2012 Brisbane season and for its Brisbane production of South Pacific. Jill joined the voice faculty of Queensland Conservatorium in 2013. She has served on the Music Board of the Australia Council for the Arts and performs regularly with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
Shelli Hulcombe, a renowned performer, teacher and adjudicator who has performed extensively with Opera Queensland in roles such as Nannetta in Falstaff and Adele in Die Fledermaus will also delight crowds on the day.
Proceeds from the event will go towards raising money and awareness for local Rotary community projects as well as local charities Drug ARM Australasia and the Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC).
